Roanoke Valley Aikido School - What is Aikido?

What is Aikido?

The art of Aikido has become increasingly popular over the last decade as people search for physical and spiritual paths to inner peace. The style of Nihon Goshin Aikido originated in Japan as did all styles of Aikido. While each style is somewhat unique they all follow the same basic philosophy: Peace and inner-harmony by allowing the practitioner to balance and utilize energy. The Nihon Goshin Style of Aikido couples this philosophical approach with an effective system of self defense.

The Nihon Goshin Aikido system was developed by Japanese martial arts master, Shodo Morita. Master Morita, after having mastered a variety of fighting systems, concluded no one style was complete within itself. With that in mind, Master Morita took the best of Judo, Karate, Jujitsu, Bo-Jitsu, and Aiki-jujitsu to form the dynamic self defense system we now know as Nihon Goshin Aikido.

Nihon Goshin Aikido is an excellent martial art for all levels of physical ability as the student uses the energy of the opponent rather than their own strength.
